Check a name before you commit
Shortlist three names. Type each one into the shop name box in Shop Manager, which tells you if it is taken. What are Etsy’s shop name rules?
Etsy’s help pages say a shop name is 4 to 20 characters, with no spaces or special characters. It can’t be a name another member already uses, can’t contain profanity and can’t infringe a trademark. The generator is told to follow these rules and shows each name’s character count, but Etsy checks the name when you save it, so the final word is Etsy’s.
Does it check whether a name is available on Etsy?
No. It can’t see Etsy’s list of shop names. Type your favorite into the shop name box in Shop Manager, or open etsy.com/shop/ followed by the name to see if a shop already uses it. Check a trademark database for the countries you sell in too.
How do I separate words without spaces?
Use capital letters at the start of each word, such as LittleFernStudio. Etsy keeps the capitals you type, and changing only the capitalization later does not count as a rename.
Can I change my Etsy shop name later?
Yes. Before your shop opens you can change it freely. After it opens, Etsy’s help page says you can change it up to 5 times on your own, and after that the change needs Etsy Support’s approval. Changing only the capitals, or going back to a name you used before, does not count. Your old name stays reserved: other sellers can’t take it, and links to it redirect to the new name.
Should my shop name say what I sell?
It helps buyers, but keep it broad enough to grow. “SoyCandleCo” is clear, and it gets awkward once you add soap. A name like “WillowAndWick” hints at the style while leaving room for new products.
Can I edit the copy?
